Welcome to Hope Seeds

Cole Crops

The cole crops listed here are basically most of those in the brassica family - broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc.  They're good n' hardy for our northern gardens, preferring the cool weather of Spring and Fall over the heat of Summer. They can be direct seeded in the garden as soon as soil can be worked, although I generally start my plants indoors 4-6 weeks before planting out.  They can take a bit of frost, so you don't have to wait as long to transplant as you do with squash, tomatoes or peppers.  Flea beetles love them, taking little "pepper-shot" bites out of leaves and flying away really quick.  Protect your plants by using floating row cover.

Approximately 300 seeds/gram.

Broccoli

CALABRESE SPROUTING                                                                     Certified Organic
60 days from transplant.  This is an old Italian open-pollinated variety that is perfect for home gardeners that want a continuous harvest of broccoli through the season.  It isn't much for producing a large, single head, but has very prolific side shoots that give you smaller florets perfect for popping directly in the stir-fry or as dippers.   The more you cut, the more they grow!

Chinese Cabbage

TAISAI                                                                               Certified Organic

.   This bok-choi type of cabbage is becoming more familiar in our cooking.  Thick juicy white  stalks with dark green leaves form a fairly tight but upright head.  Excellent in stirfries and other Asian dishes.
Product code: 1207-co
Price: 1g = $2.50, 5g = $8.00
MICHILI

Cauliflower

EARLY SNOWBALL A
60 days
.   I was surprised to find these guys heading up so soon in the garden last year!  Nice bright white heads even though this variety is not self-wrapping.  Tender yet crisp, heads hold their harvestable stage for quite a while allowing for spaced out harvests.
Product code: 1206
Price: 1g = $2.50, 5g = $7.50

Kohlrabi

EARLY WHITE VIENNA
50 days
.   Not the most popular cole crop, as it is kinda funny looking and people don't really know what to do with it.  Don't be afraid of the wonderful world of kohlrabi!  The swollen stem is the desired part, and is best with harvested at about 2-3" diameter (when larger it tends to get woody).  The stem is light green with white flesh, and a crisp juicy texture.  Excellent raw as kohlrabi-sticks (like carrot sticks!) for dipping, grated into salads, or cubed into stews.

Price: 1g = $2.50, 5g = $7.50
