Most northern gardeners these days rely on plastic mulch, hoop houses, row tunnels or greenhouses to get a reliable crop of peppers or eggplant. They're a finicky family to grow in the field, but it can be done! Start your seedlings early in the late winter, potting up as the seedlings grow. Set out into the field after hardening off in the Spring, but make sure you avoid any potential late frost.
